email archives from Thunderbird to Evolution

When days go along, my mailbox getting full easily, and it's time to get upkeeping by store the mails elsewhere. It's just kind of big trouble for me to get through the email archives. And here's the way i tried so far.

Get the emails manager such as Evolution (linux), Thunderbird(both windows & linux) etc for archive or emails local storage. Select the mails and move to local folders, or archives(some managers have this option).

When you need for backup of this local mails, go to the storage folder and get copy from it.
For Evolution (ubuntu), common method is look at the files at:
~/.evolution/mail;
but in fact for my case, the Evolution is built-in with Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04, which stored i else where:
~/.local/share/evolution

For Thunderbird, the archived mails would be in:
(Windows) C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Application Data\Thunderbird\profiles\...\Mail\Local Folders\
(Ubuntu) ~/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/Mail/

*the symbol "~" means the home folder of the user directory.

Another one knowledge, archived mails transfer from Thunderbird to Evolution, just copy the files (of Thunderbird) without any extension and import in Evolution. Generally, for each archives folder in Thunderbird, 2 files created, one with the extension of .msf, another one is without any extension, eg: 2008 & 2008.msf
